Hungary According to Various Nations
Sense of humor is required if you are to check out the maps by Yanko Tsvetkov capturing how people from different countries stereotype Europe, alon.hu reports.
A series of maps of Europe labelled according to national stereotypes has become an internet sensation with half a billion hits. Yanko Tsvetkov, a Bulgarian designer and illustrator decided to mock our simplified perceptions of the world by creating a series of infographical maps of the most popular national stereotypes.
Cultural and geographical differences often create points of contention and humor between different countries. The labels he uses touch on everything from political concerns, like the development of the European Union, to cultural stereotypes. Possibly the best part about the maps is that instead of drawing the traditional geographical boarders of the countries, Yanko’s maps indicate how different nations see one another.
Europe according to Americans:
Yanko Tsvetkov says that Hungary is a nameless „buffer zone” to the Americans. The others fared no better: Germany is the land of „dirty porn” and Italy is famous for its „godfathers”. Spain is „Mexico”, the French are „smelly people” and England is simply a „mummy”. And, of course, Russians are „commies”.
Europe according to Germans:
Hungary is equal to goulash, and many other countries got descriptions like this one. Poland = vegetables, Switzerland = chocolate, Italy = pizza, Ireland = whiskey etc.
Europe according to Italians:
According to Italians, Hungary equals to „porn stars”. Poland is a „Papal State”, Germans are „clock addicts”, Romanians are „thieves”, Finns are „cellphone makers” and Great Britain is simply „wembley”.
Europe according to the Vatican:
From the Vatican’s perspective, Hungary is the country of „Catholic gypsies”, Austria is a „Habsburg cemetery”, there are many „frigid women” in Great Britain, but Ireland is „our Britain”. The Czech Republic is „Godless” and there are many „good people” in Slovakia. The French are „promiscuous atheists”, but Germans are „handsome blond boys”.
Europe according to the Poles:
Hungarians are „cool dudes”, Germany is a „western bully”, Russia is an „eastern bully” and Austria is the „wrinkled bully”. Czechs are „drunks”, Romanians are „gypsies”, there are „hotels on strike” in Greece, „pussies” are in France and „gays” are in Denmark.
Europe according to the French:
Hungary is „Sarkoland”, Germans are their „best friends”, the Poles are „ plumbers”, Romanians are „poor brothers”, Bulgarians are „poor savages” and Austria is the „old archenemy”.
Europe according to the British:
Hungary is equal to soup, and most of the continent is the „evil Federated Empire of Europe”. Austria = cake , the Czech Republic = beer, Sweden = trashy pop music, Netherlands = drugs, and Italy = tanned men with grey hair . Ukraine is „what an odd country!” and Belarus is „not of significance”.
