Hungary Airlines, Hungary’s new national carrier, would expand on the Chinese market by launching new flights between Budapest and two Chinese cities.
Hungary Airlines would expand in China
According to Budflyer, a bilateral Hungary-China air traffic agreement enables airlines to start more cargo flights between Chinese cities and Budapest, and that is what Hungary Airlines would like to use to its advantage. Based on the air travel Facebook page, Hungary Airlines is planning to launch new flights between Budapest–Hangzhou and Budapest–Zhengzhou.
According to Wikipedia, Hangzhou is the capital city of the Chinese province of Zhejiang. It is located in northwestern Zhejiang, sitting at the head of Hangzhou Bay. As of the 2020 Chinese census, it had a total population of 11,936,010 inhabitants. Hangzhou ranks ninth in terms of GDP in mainland China. Hangzhou hosts the headquarters of Alibaba Group, Ant Group, DeepSeek, Geely, and NetEase.

Budapest Airport became a regional hub for Chinese products
Zhengzhou, located on the southern bank of the Yellow River, is a hub of China’s domestic and international transportation network. As of the 2020 Chinese census, the prefecture-level city of Zhengzhou had a population of 12,600,574 inhabitants.
The new flights were discussed in an interview published on kozlekedesvilag.hu, and Hungary Airlines said they would like to operate the new flights this year. Later, they would like to include Ürümqi, the capital of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in Northwestern China, with a population of 4 million. Therefore, the new Hungarian national carrier would like to put five more Boeing 777ERFS planes into service.
As we discussed in THIS article, Budapest Airport has emerged as the primary distribution hub for e-commerce products in Central Europe following the coronavirus pandemic.
