Hungary condemns vandalism in Arad
Budapest, February 16 (MTI) – The Hungarian government condemns the recent vandalising of the monument to Hungary’s 1849 martyrs in Arad, Romania, Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjen told MTI on Monday.
The Arad monument was smeared with red, yellow and blue paint during the weekend, while the perpetrators also wrote anti-Hungarian slogans on its pedestal. Semjen called the vandalism a “primitive, barbaric and inexcusable act of provocation”.
The Hungarian government expects the Romanian police to find the perpetrators as soon as possible, Semjen said in a statement.
Arad’s deputy mayor Levente Bognar told MTI that three masked people had spray-painted the monument by broad daylight on Saturday.
