Hungary guest nights up 15 pc in July
In July 2022, 1.3 million guests spent 3.8 million tourism nights in commercial accommodation establishments1 (hotels, boarding houses, camping sites, bungalow complexes and community hostels), with the number of guests up by 17% and the number of nights by 15% compared to the same period of the previous year, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said on Tuesday.
The number of nights spent by domestic guests decreased by 10% compared to the same month in 2021, mainly due to the high base last year. The number of nights spent by foreign guests more than doubled. In January-July 2022, domestic guests spent 55% more tourism nights and foreign guests 290% more tourism nights than in the same period last year.
In July 2022 compared to same month of previous year:
The number of domestic tourist arrivals fell by 8.9% and that of tourism nights by 10%. The former was 827 thousand and the latter 2.4 million. 58% of the nights were spent at hotels, their number declining by 8.9% compared to a year earlier. Turnover in boarding houses and community hostels decreased by 19% and 3.1% respectively compared to July last year. The most popular tourist regions were Lake Balaton and the Budapest–Central Danube Region, which accounted for 38% and 12% respectively of domestic tourism nights.
Both international tourist arrivals and tourism nights more than doubled. A total of 493 thousand guests spent 1.4 million tourism nights in accommodation. 63% of tourism nights were spent at hotels, which was a more than two-fold growth compared to July 2021. The most popular tourism region was the Budapest–Central Danube Region, where 47% of international tourism nights were registered.
Total gross sales revenues at current prices increased by 26% to HUF 61 billion.
Cardholders paid 35% less, HUF 6 billion, with their Széchenyi Recreation Cards in commercial accommodation.
In July 2022:
2,906 commercial accommodation establishments, including 946 hotels and 1,201 boarding houses, were open for part or all of the month.
63% of all tourism nights were spent by domestic guests.
In January-July 2022 compared to the same period of the previous year:
The number of tourism nights spent in commercial accommodation increased by 106% to 14.6 million. Domestic guests spent 55% more nights in commercial accommodation and foreign guests nearly three times as many (8.6 and 6.0 million respectively).
Total gross sales revenues of commercial accommodation at current prices increased by 140% to HUF 239 billion.
