Hungary’s head coach: Exhaustively planned work all the way to the Euros
Hungary’s head coach Bernd Storck is already back in Hungary in order to continue his hard work of last year; preparing the Hungarian national team so it is in the best possible form when going into this summer’s European Championships in France.
During the festive period Mr Storck gave his squad members tasks to fulfil, primarily to take care of their physical condition ahead of February’s first national-team gathering.
“Before Christmas I didn’t just give the players festive greetings but also a personal outline of the journey ahead, as part of which I asked them to pay particular attention to their strength and conditioning and to develop their physical condition. Their clubs are already playing warm-up matches so our get-together on 20th February is especially important because then we will discover the exact feedback on the staff members’ and players’ physical well-being and following that we will see who should do what kind in the coming months”, Mr Storck told www.mlsz.hu.
The national team’s spring schedule will soon be finalised, and the identities of Hungary’s opponents for the friendly matches leading up to the Euros in France will be revealed as well. In connection with this Hungary’s head coach said: “It is the task of the association’s leadership to arrange the strongest possible national teams for us to play before the Euros. It is particularly important for me that we play against strong teams because only this way will it become apparent for our players how strong we are at the given moment”.
At the moment the coaching staff are continually keeping an eye the latest news regarding their group rivals’ preparations and they are collecting any other relevant information.
“Our first two matches in the Euros can be crucial, those are more important than anything else, therefore only these are in our minds. We need to develop our game with exhaustively planned work so that, even though we are not the favourites in our games against Austria and Iceland, we bring the best out of ourselves, just as we were successful in doing so during our two matches against Norway”.
Naturally, the 53-year-old German is paying attention to all the transfers involving his national squad members with the transfer window now open. Mainly because footballers will be called up to the national team if they play at clubs in spring where they will continually receive first-team opportunities.
“I saw a number of talented players at our national-team get-together at the end of the last year, so primarily, from the viewpoint of their future development, it is important that they perform to their best in the coming years. But they may receive opportunities in the full national team squad earlier, therefore, to reach this stage, they must be continuously play football”, said Mr Storck who, as MLSZ Sports Director, coordinates the national team youth set-up, too.
