Hungary to host modern pentathlon, fencing world championships in 2019
Budapest, November 27 (MTI) – Hungary has won the right to host the World Fencing Championships and the World Modern Pentathlon Championships in 2019.
Both tournaments will serve as qualifying events for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
Hungary was awarded the rights to host the tournaments at the respective congresses of the International Modern Pentathlon Union (UIPM) and the International Fencing Federation (FIE) on Sunday, according to a UIPM newsletter sent to MTI and the website of the Hungarian Fencing Federation.
The 2019 tournament will be Budapest’s sixth time hosting the World Modern Pentathlon Championships, having already hosted the event in 1969, 1979, 1989, 1999 and 2008.
Budapest will be hosting the World Fencing Championships for the eighth time, the last world fencing tournament was held in the Hungarian capital in 2013.
