Members of the Hungarian Mineral Water, Fruit Juice and Soft Drink Association on Thursday pledged to halve the sugar and calorie content of their products from 2010 levels by the end of 2020.

Members are reworking their recipes, cutting back on sugar content and expanding their offering of low-calorie and zero-calorie products, the association said.

Already between 2010 and 2017, the sugar and calorie content of members’ products was reduced by 40 percent. Low- and zero-calorie products now account for 55 percent of members’ production volume, up from 23pc in 2010.

The association’s members control about 80 percent of the soft drink and juice market in Hungary and more than 95 percent of the mineral water market.
