Hungary subsistence level EUR 284 per month
Budapest, April 19 (MTI) – Last year the subsistence level in Hungary was 88,000 forints (EUR 284) per month for a household including one adult and 255,246 forints for a household including two adults and two children, a survey prepared by Policy Agenda in line with the Central Statistical Office’s methodology showed.
Head of the Hungarian trade unions’ alliance MaSzSz László Kordás told a press conference on Tuesday that the statistical office had decided not to publish the subsistence level figure for last year, so the alliance made the calculations itself in a project supported by the Friedrich Ebert foundation.
The susbsistence level has been an important indicator used at annual wage talks for 25 years, Kordás said.
Policy Agenda research director Pál Belyó said an estimated 41 percent of Hungarians and at least a third of families with at least one jobholder lived below the subsistence level last year.
