Hungary could provide substantial support for Serbia’s EU accession, says house speaker
Serbia “has much to hope from Hungary” during its European Union integration, Speaker of Parliament László Kövér said in Subotica (Szabadka), in Serbia, on Tuesday.
After talks with the leaders of the Hungarian Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (VMSZ), Kövér said Vojvodina Hungarians would be a link between Serbia and Hungary as well as Serbia and the EU. One of the most important tasks is to preserve the Hungarian community, especially youth, he said.
Hungary would make further efforts to ensure they can make a living in their homeland, “and the numbers seem to show that Serbia is standing before unprecedented opportunities.” Kövér is scheduled to meet Serbia’s president, prime minister and the speaker of parliament on Wednesday, to discuss expanding bilateral relations and ways in which Hungary can help Serbia’s EU integration.
