Hungary supports EC measures against illegal wildlife trade
Budapest, June 5 (MTI) – Hungary supports and is committed to implementing the European Commission’s recently proposed action plan aimed at combating illegal wildlife trade, the farm ministry said on Sunday.
Hungary prohibits the entry of illegal transit shipments into the European Union and regularly inspects imported wildlife products, the ministry said on the occasion of World Environment Day.
Hungary has been a member of the UN Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) since 1985. The ministry said it is consistent in implementing the treaty’s rules in cooperation with government institutions, the national tax authority, the police and the authority for animal and plant health.
