Hungary to extend razor wire barrier on Croatia border
Budapest, September 21 (MTI) – Hungary is preparing to install a razor wire barrier on another section of its border with Croatia, in Zala County, a government official told MTI on Monday.
Government commissioner Csaba Rigo said the move was prompted by the Croatian government’s implementation of “plan C”, which involves redirecting migrants to Hungary over the “green border”.
Rigo noted that the total length of the Hungary-Croatia border in Zala County is 42 kilometres, with the River Mura separating the two countries over 24 kilometres, forming a natural barrier.
On Monday afternoon, another 1,500 migrants were picked up in the village of Zakany on the Croatian border and taken to the collection points in Szentgotthard and Vamosszabadi near Hungary’s western border, public news channel M1 reported. The migrants were escorted to a train in smaller groups by police, and all of them were able to board within an hour. Many of the migrants were families with infants, who were provided care by aid groups at the scene.
The news channel later reported the arrival of 5-8 more buses filled with migrants at the Beremend station on the Croatia-Hungary border.
