Hungary’s central bank to issue new HUF 2,000, 5,000 notes
Budapest (MTI) – The central bank will issue new 2,000 forint and 5,000 forint banknotes on March 1, and the rollout will take place over the next few months, the bank’s deputy governor, Ferenc Gerhárdt, told a news conference on Tuesday.
The old notes first issued before 2016 will be in circulation until July 31 before the National Bank of Hungary starts withdrawing them. From August 1 it will be possible to pay only with the new notes, he added.
Banks and post offices will accept the old notes in exchange for new ones.
