Hungary’s Stockholm envoy hands letter of protest to foreign minister
Budapest, September 25 (MTI) – Hungary’s ambassador to Sweden on Friday handed a letter of protest to the country’s foreign minister, complaining about “crude slander” made by the migration minister in connection with Hungarian migrant policy.
The Hungarian foreign ministry said in a statement that the minister in question alleged that Hungarian police had used tear gas against asylum seekers who were women and children.
The ministry said that the facts are that aggressive migrants had bombarded police with chunks of concrete for hours on end, and 14 officers had been injured. Action taken had been purely to quell the assault, the statement added.
For this reason Hungary’s foreign minister, Péter Szijjártó, instructed the Stockholm ambassador to hand over the note of protest, the statement said.
