Important: new emergency number in Hungary
A new emergency number is coming into force in Hungary, the emergency services warn. However, not all counties yet have the new 1830 emergency medical number, they point out.
The National Ambulance Service (Országos Mentőszolgálat, OMSZ) stressed that even after the introduction of the new system, the 112 emergency number will remain available, and anyone can still call it in case of an emergency.
Minister of State for Health Péter Takács recently said that the on-call doctor system will be unified, Pénzcentrum reports. Patients will have to call the central telephone number 1830, where the county ambulance service will decide on the basis of the symptoms whether the patient can wait for the next day’s GP care, go to the central GP on-call service or whether an ambulance will be dispatched immediately, he told Kossuth radio.
However, the OMSZ has informed Telex that for the time being, the medical emergency service can only be reached in Hajdú-Bihar county on the telephone number 1830. In the future, the system will gradually become nationwide.
So in case of emergency, you can still call an ambulance on 112, and this number will remain in the future, alongside 1830.
