Politically, there is close coordination and regular dialogue, while economically, cooperation continues to expand steadily. Energy, investment, education, and tourism stand out as key pillars of this partnership, but what is particularly important is the shared vision that guides cooperation across these sectors. Both countries see each other as reliable partners with complementary strengths.

DNH: Energy has become a key strategic issue for all European countries. From your perspective, what types of energy cooperation or agreements between Qatar and Hungary could most effectively contribute to Hungary’s long term energy security?

H.E. Radi Al Ajami: The global energy sector is facing significant challenges, making energy security a top priority for many countries, particularly in Europe. In this context, strategic partnerships based on reliability and long-term planning are essential. Qatar, as a leading global energy producer, places great importance on being a dependable partner. Strengthening cooperation with Hungary in areas such as energy supply, infrastructure development, and investment can contribute meaningfully to Hungary’s long-term energy security. Such cooperation is not limited to short-term solutions, but rather focuses on sustainable, forward-looking approaches that enhance stability and resilience in the energy sector.

DNH: Beyond energy, in which sectors do you see the greatest potential for future economic cooperation between Qatar and Hungary?

H.E. Radi Al Ajami: Beyond the energy sector, there is considerable potential for expanding cooperation in several key areas. Higher education and scientific research are particularly promising, given Hungary’s strong academic institutions and Qatar’s investment in knowledge-based development.

Advanced technology and innovation also offer opportunities for mutually beneficial collaboration. In addition, agriculture and tourism present practical avenues for partnership, whether through investment, expertise exchange, or joint initiatives. These sectors provide a strong basis for building sustainable, long-term cooperation that delivers tangible benefits to both countries.

DNH: When it comes to tourism, how attractive do you think Hungary is for Qatari travelers at the moment? What do Qatari tourists typically look for in a European destination, and where could Hungary improve to meet these expectations better?

H.E. Radi Al Ajami: Hungary has many qualities that make it an attractive destination for Qatari tourists. It is widely regarded as a safe country, which is an important consideration for family travel. The country’s conservative social environment, combined with its respect for cultural traditions, also resonates well with Qatari visitors. In addition, Hungary offers a diverse tourism experience, ranging from historical and cultural sites to renowned thermal spas and wellness tourism, as well as recreational attractions. This variety allows visitors to enjoy a rich and well-rounded travel experience.

DNH: What would you say to Hungarian travelers who are considering their next trip abroad – why should they choose Qatar, and which experiences places would you personally recommend they do not miss?

H.E. Radi Al Ajami: I warmly invite Hungarian travelers to consider Qatar as their next travel destination. Qatar offers a distinctive experience that combines modern development and cutting-edge infrastructure with deep-rooted cultural heritage. Visitors can explore world-class museums, enjoy the unique atmosphere of Souq Waqif, and experience the natural beauty of the Qatari desert through activities such as desert safaris. Beyond specific attractions, Qatar provides a welcoming environment and high-quality services, making it an appealing destination for travelers seeking both comfort and cultural enrichment.

H.E. Radi Al Ajami: In the coming period, the embassy plans to remain actively engaged in promoting bilateral relations through a variety of initiatives. These include organizing and participating in cultural and economic events, hosting business forums, and facilitating high-level visits. Such activities are designed to create new opportunities for dialogue, investment, and cultural exchange. Our goal is to further deepen cooperation and strengthen mutual understanding between Qatar and Hungary at both the institutional and people-to-people levels.

DNH: On a more personal note, how do you find diplomatic life in Budapest? How would you describe the local diplomatic community and Hungary as a place to live and work as an ambassador?

H.E. Radi Al Ajami: Diplomatic life in Budapest is characterized by a high degree of vitality and constructive engagement.
