Is Hungary turning its back on Russia?
Hungary is dependent on Russian gas but is trying to turn its back on Russia, says a political expert.
On 26 April, the UN member states voted in favour of a resolution officially declaring Russia an aggressor in the war in Ukraine. The decision was backed by 122 countries, including China, India and Hungary, among others, who had previously been Russia’s strategic partners.
Georgij Birkadze, a Georgian political and economic expert living in Ukraine, says this could be a turning point for Hungary. “So far Hungary was the only country in the European Union that supported Russia, but now they also voted for the UN resolution. Do you think they are beginning to understand that Russia is finished?” said Birkadze.
The expert believes that this could also contribute to Hungary’s EU bargaining policy. Index.hu writes that the stakes are high, as EU funds are vital for Hungary’s economy.
But now, the expert says, the debate is political rather than technical. Bloomberg reported earlier that the Hungarian parliament passed a law aimed at reducing the politicisation of the courts. This could help Hungary draw down EUR 13 billion in funding.

Viktor Orbán made an excellent speech at CPAC conference and what he said it reflected well by all witnessing the destruction of truth in the present Western cultural decline. He called to halt the present progressive virus championed by the dark side of woke political culture.
He talked of independent national thinking within Europe, opposed to the present borderless Brussel’s ideology, a Europe without borders.
And probably he was right saying, if Trump was the President of the USA, then most likely we wouldn’t have a war in Ukraine.
We should turn our back on Russia, yes, because it’s nothing short of a terrorist state, but we shouldn’t hitch our wagon to the yellow stars of the E.U. either. The E.U. is a totalitarian, artificial entity, which will before long become as bad as the CCCP of old. It’s already using many tricks right out of the Soviet book.
Orban has made many trips to Moscow to suck something leaving Vladimir Putin smiling. Could it be that Orban has grown tired of it? I doubt it.
Russia isn’t going any where along with its people- you better find a way to live next door. The Russian people lived under the same communism as Hungary but even more restrictive. They lost more of its people than entire population of Hungary.
Trump and Orban together could have avoided the war to a compromise.
China is not going away either- with its new relations ship- the western world is compromised – keep telling yourself how evil Putin. France has even opened the door to more coperation with China.
