Italian Beretta to manufacture arms in Hungary
Hungary’s N7 Nemzeti VĂ©delmi Ipari Innovation Holding has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Italian arms manufacturer Beretta on ammunition production in Hungary, the defence ministry said on Thursday.
The MoU signed with Beretta covers the production of 7.62mm and 12.7mm ammunition for the Lynx and Gidran combat vehicles, respectively, the ministry cited Defence Minister KristĂ³f Szalay-Bobrovniczky as saying.
With both types of vehicles now being manufactured in Hungary, the ammunition needed for them will also soon be made here, the minister said.
Demand for both types of ammunition is high amid the current security situation, but their domestic production will be able to increase the security of their supply, Szalay-Bobrovniczky said. Hungary will also be able to produce them for export in the long run, thereby bolstering the economy, he added.
