Jobbik to focus on wage rises in campaign for 2018, says group leader

Budapest (MTI) – Wage rises will be a major focus of Jobbik’s campaign for the 2018 general election, the party’s group leader said on Friday.

Jobbik wants to reduce the personal income tax to a single-digit rate and scrap or considerably cut the personal income tax on minimum wages, János Volner told a press conference on the last day of a three-day meeting of the party’s parliamentary group in Dunakiliti, in north-western Hungary.

Hungary is one of the OECD members with the highest taxes on minimum wages therefore reducing or entirely scrapping them is an important goal for the party, he said.

The party also wants to offer several tax benefits to Hungarians working abroad if they decide to return home, Volner added.

Further, Jobbik wants to introduce a tax scheme offering tax rebates in the industry, agriculture, R+D and tourism sectors with the aim to boost the growth of Hungary’s real economy, he said.

Jobbik will put forward its proposal containing exact figures and rates during the autumn session of parliament, the group leader told MTI.
