Katalin Novák nominee for Hungarian presidency visited families, refugee shelter
Katalin Novák, the ruling Fidesz party’s nominee for the presidency of the republic, visited western Ukraine on Friday in her capacity as the goodwill ambassador of the Hungarian Reformed Charity Service.
Novák met locals in Transcarpathia and refugees from other parts of Ukraine who have fled to Berehove (Beregszász). She was accompanied by bishops of the four Hungarian church districts.
In the Reformed Church in Berehove, Novák said Hungarians “stand by each other and we can count on each other; sometimes with deeds, sometimes with words, and sometimes with simply our presence — we are ready to help.”
She said Hungarians “share the grief, the anxiety, we share in the hardships,” adding that “now everyone thinks of the Hungarians of Transcarpathia together with a single beating heart.”
“Hungary welcomes all refugees … they can stay as long as they need,” she said.
Novák visited families in Berehove and one of the refugee shelters, handing out aid packages.
