Kertesz, Rubik to be Awarded Saint Stephen’s Order
Budapest, August 18 (MTI) – Nobel laureate for literature Imre Kertesz and inventor Erno Rubik will be presented the Hungarian Order of Saint Stephen, the highest state award, this year, the prime minister’s press chief said today.
The award is given to personalities with undisputable international recognition, who have further improved Hungary’s reputation in the world, Bertalan Havasi said.
The award was originally founded by Queen Maria Theresa in 1764. It was discontinued after 1946 and was reinstated in 2011.
The award is scheduled to be presented by President Janos Ader at a ceremony taking place in the presidential Sandor Palace on the August 20 national holiday.
Last year the award went to five-time Olympic champion swimmer Krisztina Egerszegi and economist Sandor Lamfalussy.
