Körmend temporary reception centre to receive first group of migrants soon
Budapest, April 28 (MTI) – The first group of migrants are expected to arrive early next week at a reception centre opened recently for temporary use in Körmend, in western Hungary, a regional director of the national immigration office said on Thursday.
The reception centre with a capacity to accommodate 300 people has been opened since the number of migrants passing through Hungary on their way to western Europe has gone up recently, Anikó Sipos told a press conference in the city.
Miklós Dukai, deputy state secretary of the Interior Ministry, said that 12,000 migrants applied for asylum in Hungary until now this year, adding that the immigration office receives 200 applications per day.
There are 1,777 migrants staying currently at reception centres, community shelters and transit zones in Hungary, he said.
Most of the migrants arrive from Pakistan, Afghanistan and North Africa, Dukai said.
