It will be difficult to reach Lake Balaton on motorway!
This week will probably be the year’s hottest. Therefore, many may spend some days at Lake Balaton’s cool water. If you decide to do so, you should not choose the M7 motorway as traffic jams are expected due to the renovation work starting on Monday.
Ongoing work on the motorway leading to Lake Balaton
According to Infóstart, traffic restrictions and roadblocks will baulk traffic on the M7 motorway between Budapest and Lake Balaton between 8 and 14 July. The work will happen between the 10th and 12th kilometres of the Budapest-Lake Balaton direction between 8 and 10 July. On the opposite side, the renovation will take place between 10 and 12 July and will affect the section between the 120th and 123rd kilometres.
The aim of the work is the maintenance of the bridge and the renovation of the motorway’s coating. The operator MKIF (Hungarian Concession Infrastructure Development Ltd.) asked all drivers to be cautious and keep all speed restrictions on the highway sections affected.
Red warning is in effect in Hungary this week
According to the weather forecast of the HungaroMet Nonprofit Ltd, thermometres may show even 40 °C this weekend in Hungary, so probably many people will choose to cool down at Central Europe’s biggest lake. Based on their prognosis, temperature will rise gradually this week, telex.hu wrote. Therefore, authorities issued the highest (red) level of severe weather warning in Hungary. That means social institutions must open their doors to people in trouble.
