Major traffic changes in one of Budapest’s busiest areas this summer
Traffic changes can be expected at one of Budapest’s busiest squares from Monday due to public works. The renovation is expected to last until the end of August.
Due to public works, Attila Street will be unidirectional from Monday from Mikó Street to Vérmező Street in the direction of Széll Kálmán Square, the Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) said.
As Attila Street will be one-way towards Szél Kálmán Square, it is recommended that drivers travelling towards Elisabeth Bridge use the parallel Krisztina Boulevard. The affected BKK services will be diverted. Buses No. 5 and No. 956 to Pest will run on a modified route, trams No. 56 will run on the Krisztina Boulevard route.
The services will not stop at Körmöci Street, Korlát Street, Mikó Street and Alagút Street. They will instead stop at Déli railway station, Mikó Street and Krisztina Square stations of tram 56.
The Hűvösvölgy tram line will be upgraded. Thus, people with baby carriages will be able to board the more modern CAF trams more easily. Furthermore, people with reduced mobility will be able to travel more comfortably and without obstacles, napi.hu writes.
The renovation is expected to last from 17 June until the end of August. During this period, trams 56, 56A, 59 and 61 will only be accessible on a shorter section.
Between Széll Kálmán Square and Hűvösvölgy, you can use the replacement bus 61.
Between Széll Kálmán Square and Hűvösvölgy, the tracks, the stops and the electrical network are being renovated in several places. So, from 17 June (Saturday) until the end of August, trams 56, 56A, 59 and 61 will run on a shortened route, only until Széll Kálmán Square.
Between Széll Kálmán Square and Hűvösvölgy you can take the 61 replacement bus. The renovation is necessary to allow the modern, low-floor CAF trams to run to Hűvösvölgy from autumn.
