Mandatory mask-wearing reimposed in several Hungarian hospitals

Mandatory mask-wearing has been reintroduced in numerous hospitals across Hungary amid a surge in upper respiratory infections nationwide.

According to ATV, the measure has been implemented in several subsidiary facilities of the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County Teaching Hospital. This step follows a significant recent rise in cases of upper respiratory diseases, with the aim of safeguarding patients and staff alike.
The restriction is in force at Jósa András Hospital in NyÃregyháza, its Sóstó subsidiary, and the hospitals in Nagykálló, Mátészalka, Fehérgyarmat, and Vásárosnamény, as well as the NyÃrbátor polyclinic. It covers all outpatient and inpatient services, along with every department within these institutions.

Meanwhile, in response to the increasing prevalence of coronavirus cases, mandatory mask-wearing has also been reinstated at the polyclinics run by the local government in Pécs, again to protect staff and patients. By contrast, masks remain optional in Pécs’s hospitals.
Symptoms of these illnesses include sore throat, fever, and headache.
Gábor Kemenesi, a Hungarian virologist, has warned that the coronavirus, like other viruses, mutates constantly. As a result, it is likely to persist among us for the foreseeable future. The virus continues to pose a serious threat to the elderly and vulnerable groups, such as those with chronic conditions including diabetes, cancer, and similar ailments.
