Many shops to close for 4 days over Christmas
Budapest, December 21 (MTI) – New rules concerning the opening hours of retail outlets during the Christmas holidays will result in stores closing longer this year, the National Association of Retailers said on Monday.
Many shops will be open on December 24, especially for grocery shopping, but all stores must shut at noon, under new laws restricting opening times on holidays. Shops will be closed on December 25, December 26 and December 27 as well, the latter because the day is a Sunday. Exceptions will apply to the Sunday closure law. For instance, filling station shops, pharmacies on emergency duty, markets and farmers’ markets, shops at railway and coach stations and airports can stay open.
The other exceptions are shops smaller than 200 square metres or those with a family member helping out behind the counter.
