Miskolc Advent tram once again named Europe’s most beautiful
Miskolc’s iconic winter attraction, the Advent tram, has won the title of “Europe’s Most Beautiful Advent Tram” for the ninth time.

In this year’s international competition organised by the Czech professional portal MHD86, festive trams from 38 European cities competed against one another. Based on the final results, Miskolc claimed first place, followed by Plzeň and Bratislava on the podium. In addition to Miskolc’s victory, Budapest’s light tram finished in 8th place, Debrecen in 10th, while Szeged secured 17th position.
The Miskolc Advent tram, which has been operating for the 14th year, features a different theme every year. In 2024, both the exterior and interior decorations were inspired by The Nutcracker. The meticulously crafted design, the constantly renewed concept and the immersive travel experience have by now made the tram a major attraction, drawing large numbers of visitors to the city each year.
Around 20 members of the public transport company MVK Zrt. worked on creating the decorations, using nearly 400 metres of light tubing and several hundred Christmas ornaments. The tram runs between Tiszai Railway Station and the city centre, creating a festive atmosphere for visitors arriving by train from the very moment they reach Miskolc.
Winter attractions continue: Lillafüred Waterfall freezes over
Beyond the Advent season, a range of winter attractions awaits visitors in Miskolc and the surrounding Bükk region. In January, the Lillafüred Waterfall froze over, a rare natural phenomenon that can only be seen under special weather conditions. The Lillafüred State Forest Railway continues to operate with heated carriages during the winter, making the area’s sights easily accessible.
Snow-covered hiking trails in the Bükk Mountains, panoramic views from the Zsófia Lookout Tower, and the Ellipsum Experience Bath in Miskolctapolca together offer a variety of winter leisure opportunities for those visiting the city.
