Hungary’s Miss Universe contestant may soon resume preparations as this year’s final is marred by scandals

Although Kincső Dezsényi is expected to rejoin her fellow contestants shortly, the mysterious food poisoning affecting several participants is far from the only scandal overshadowing the 2025 Miss Universe final.

A few days ago, Kincső Dezsényi – Hungary’s contestant who made it to the Miss Universe finals – fell ill and was taken to hospital. She is not the only participant at the Thailand-based competition suffering from health issues; the contestant representing Iceland, for instance, was forced to withdraw due to severe symptoms that failed to improve for several days, reports 24.hu.

Kincső Dezsényi remains under hospital care

During preparations, Dezsényi suffered a severe case of food poisoning, which led to her being taken to Pattaya Hospital in Bangkok. In a video shared on Instagram, the model explained that she was initially treated with a medication containing an ingredient she is allergic to. Once doctors realised this, they immediately switched her to another treatment. Dezsényi remains optimistic about her recovery.

According to Dr Nóra Özer, President of Miss Universe Hungary, doctors are doing everything they can to support Kincső’s quick recovery, but she still has a fever and requires an IV.

Although the Hungarian contestant is experiencing the most serious symptoms, a video posted on the official Miss Universe Hungary Instagram page suggests that she may soon be able to continue preparing for the 21 November final. This means she could still be in the running for the crown – and the overall victory.

Health is a personal mission for the Hungarian contestant

The 21-year-old Kincső Dezsényi won the Miss Universe Hungary title on 13 September, triumphing over the other 11 finalists and earning the chance to represent Hungary at the prestigious global competition.

Currently studying to become a physiotherapist, she has been modelling actively for seven years, since the age of 14. She hopes to work with children in the future, as promoting a healthy lifestyle and educating others about it is especially important to her.

This year’s Miss Universe dominated by scandals

The 2025 Miss Universe pageant has been rife with controversy. Organisers have yet to identify the cause of the mass food poisoning affecting numerous contestants. Moreover, the behaviour of one of the event’s organisers has sparked outrage: Navat Itsaragrisil publicly called Fátima Bosch – Miss Mexico – “stupid”.

The incident occurred after Bosch’s manager refused to approve the posting of all promotional materials, videos, photos and articles related to the competition on the contestant’s social media accounts, despite specific requests from the organisers.

Itsaragrisil confronted Bosch live on air about her manager’s decision, and without allowing her to respond, simply insulted her. When Bosch attempted to stand up for herself, he ordered her to be quiet, and when she again objected to her humiliating treatment, he summoned security.

In solidarity, the other contestants stood by Bosch and collectively walked out of the room in silence.
