Hungarian MOL has discovered a significant amount of natural gas reserves

A consortium led by Mol Pakistan has discovered significant natural gas reserves in Pakistan for the second time within 18 months, the company announced to MTI on Friday.
According to the statement, the Bilitang-1 well is located in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, in the Kohat district. Tests revealed it produces around 5,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. Mol’s share amounts to 8.4 per cent of output, equivalent to roughly 400 barrels a day added to the group’s production, the Hungarian News Agency wrote.
Drilling began in August 2025, followed by lateral drilling to access better reservoir rock. The well reached depths exceeding 4,000 metres and was tested at some 26.5 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of natural gas—roughly 5,065 barrels of oil equivalent daily.

The discovery’s significance mirrors that of the Razgir-1 gas well, announced in August 2024, the statement noted.
Zsolt Ádám László, chief executive of Mol Pakistan, said: “Our specialists have succeeded in this technically complex and deep exploratory well. This second major gas find within 18 months confirms that our commitment and adaptability can deliver substantial results even in a mature area explored for 27 years.” He described the new well as another major milestone for Mol Pakistan, opening fresh opportunities in the TAL Block.

A wholly owned subsidiary of the Mol Group, Mol Pakistan has operated in the country since 1999—27 years—and employs about 500 specialists. It holds stakes in three blocks, acting as operator in the TAL and Margalla blocks. Its joint-venture partners are Pakistan’s state-owned OGDCL, PPL, POL, and GHPL oil and gas firms.
Mol Pakistan makes a vital contribution to the country’s energy security and plays a key role in the group’s international portfolio, accounting for about 6 per cent of total hydrocarbon production. The hydrocarbons are sold locally, the statement added.
