National agriculture expo opens in Budapest – photos

The National Agriculture and Food Industry Exhibition and Fair (OMÉK) opened at the Hungexpo fairgrounds in Budapest on Thursday.
Agriculture Minister István Nagy highlighted the government’s farmer-focused policies at the opening ceremony, adding that its alliance with farmers over the past 15 years had put the agriculture sector on the growth path.

Péter Ondre, who heads organiser Agrármarketing Centrum, said OMÉK would provide a forum for 230 international traders and 80 Hungarian food industry companies.
The partner country at this year’s fair is the Philippines.

Agriculture Ministry signs cooperation agreement with cash and carry Metro
A cooperation agreement was signed by Agriculture Minister Istvan Nagy and Vladimir Gnjidic, the managing director of the local operator of cash and carry Metro, at the National Agriculture and Food Industry Exhibition and Fair (OMEK) in Budapest on Thursday.
The cooperation aims to expand the range of local products in retail and wholesale as well as at hotels, restaurants and cafes, Agrármarketing Centrum managing director Péter Ondre told MTI. The agreement was preceded by months of negotiations, he added.
