National bus operator Volan unions call five-day strike
Budapest (MTI) – Unions of national bus operator Volan have announced a five-day strike starting on March 28 after wage talks have failed, the head of one of the unions said on Thursday.
Unions demand a 3 percent wage hike and 5,000 forint (EUR 16) extra benefit payment per month, Zoltan Baranyai told MTI in a statement.
They have been in talks with representatives of the Hungarian national asset management company, the owner of Volan, for weeks but have failed to reach an agreement so far, he said.
Baranyai told MTI that they agreed with the owner on the level of services the bus company is required to provide under the strike law, adding that 75-80 percent of services will be operated during the strike.
