New Hungarian bath to be constructed underground

Alfahír.hu reported about a great idea, according to which a new bath would be built underground, and would be named, after its great size and functions, Megalit. Currently, mushrooms are being stored in the adit. The construction would need 26,000 square metres, including 11,000 square metres underground. According to the plans, there will be wellness and spa services, beauty departments, saunas, slide parks, underground waterfalls, 4D cinema, restaurants and a place for night parties.

László Bagó, Mayor of Diósd told Alfahír.hu that the price of an entrance ticket would be 6000 forints, which is not high. He claims that the target group – foreigners, visitors from Budapest and tourists, in general – do have to count with similar prices.

Megalit group told Alfahír.hu that their aim was to keep the characteristics of a small town. On the other hand, there is a need for development, as the member of the Communication Workshop noted, and he also added that there were many, including the local government, who are supporting the construction of the bath, while there are also still a lot of people who are skeptic about it. Therefore, the Megalit group set their priorities: providing information, transparency, and dialogue.

To understand the special situation of Diósd, it is fundamental to know that in 1990, the settlement had only 3700 residents. After the End of Communism in Hungary, their numbers started to increase immediately, and by 2013, when the settlement was announced as being a town, the number of the people living here exceeded 10,000. The Major and István Nagy, member of the civil group supporting the bath, told Alfahír that the development of the infrastructure had not been able to keep up with the increasing number of residents, while the territory was being built in with weekend houses.

According to Alfahír.hu, earlier, Nagy had already asked the Environmental Protection and Water Management Research Institute to fix a location for drilling to find thermal water, and to carry out a study on the environmental effects. Alfahír.hu reported that there had been drillings down to 1200 metre in 1979. The bottom hole temperature at the point where the drillers were to find Lower Triassic formations was 104 °C. From deeper than 60 metres, water has to be pumped. In case of an exploitation of 60 L/min, the temperature of the water at outlet would be 56 °C, but this quality was not adequate. If drilling at the place determined by the study, in case of exploiting 1000 L/min, the temperature of the water at the outlet can reach 85 °C, in case of exploiting 330 L/min, it exceeds 65 °C. According to the examination, the temperature of the 60-L thermal water, checked by a supercharger, was 56 °C, and contained Na-Ca-Mg hydrogen carbonate. It contained more than 1600 mg/L solute, so the spring became a registered geothermal well. After long years, the study was refreshed, and the idea of Megalit was born in 2015. Geologists were requested to come up with a professional plan on how to exploit the natural resource. Finally, a complete and enthusiastic team was formed.

As Alhahír.hu was informed, approximately 15 billion forints would be spent on the investment. The implementers strive to find thermal water, and if they succeed, preliminary assessments and test drilling are to happen. So far, 63 millions of forints were spent on the business and design plans and the supervision of the geothermal study. The project would be financed with the help of investors, from loans and sponsorships.
The idea is to raise income and construct the infrastructure of the settlement from local business and tourist tax. Moreover, Megalit Bath would provide at least 170 people with work. István Nagy told Alfahír.hu too that they would help the residents of Diósd through offering them vocational trainings. He added that they planned to construct a four-star hotel, restaurants, parking areas; furthermore, there would be bicycle and electric car rental facilities as well. To reduce traffic, a new exit would be built along the M0 motorway. The price of the real estates would rise.

To sum up, more than a hundred people could have work in place. What is more, in the second phase of the investment, another spa would be constructed for Diósd, offering reduced prices for the locals, to enter when they need a rest.
