New BKK vending machines will operate in Budapest!

The Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) started a preliminary consultation with market players about the renewal and operation of its vending machines. They want to renew the more than 10-year-old machines until 2026.

According to index.hu, BKK highlighted that digital services like the BudapestGO app and the Pay&GO became very popular among users. However, half of their revenues still come from vending machines that passengers use.

They added that the operation of their vending machines is stable thanks to the change in the operator and software in 2021. However, they would like to renew the machines because of their everyday use, so they started a preliminary consultation with market players.

Winner will operate the new and old vending machines

After the consultation, they will announce the public procurement in autumn, which will probably take six months. As a result, the Budapest Transport Centre may sign the relevant contracts between April and September 2025. That will enable them to operate the new machines for five years and continue to offer Budapest commuters a high-quality service.

The winner of the public procurement will have to operate the vending machines, renew part of the system, and buy, install and operate the new vending machines.

  1. These machines have never been used by BKK managers for sure. Only by frustrated passengers. Takes me at least 20m each time to buy a 2wk ticket. Try to click letters and numbers… try again. I saw people punching these horrible creatures. I hope the new ones will work better.
