New international jazz festival in Budapest
Budapest, January 19 (MTI) – A new festival dedicated to jazz will be added to the Budapest music scene from April, the organiser said on Tuesday.
“We want the festival to become a regular event presenting prominent foreign performers and leading Hungarian musicians, as well as promoting young Hungarian amateur bands,” Attila Kleb, managing director of Get Closer Concerts, told a press conference.
Dubbed Get Closer Budapest Jazz Fest, the festival will feature international stars such as Panamanian American jazz drummer Billy Cobham with his band, the trio GFS of Indian percussionist Trilok Gurtu, Italian trumpet player Paolo Fresu and Cuban pianist Omar Sosa, and African bassist Richard Bona.
Other programmes planned during the festival, to take place from April 22 to 24, will include a photo exhibition showing pictures about jazz concerts and an event presenting contemporary Hungarian literature.
