Over 100,000kg of donations were collected for children during Christmas charity
The organisers told MTI on Sunday that over 100,000 kilograms of donations were sent to the Mikulรกsgyรกr, a Hungarian Christmas charity program for children, this year.
They said that the headquarters of the Privรกt grocery chain at Ebes, the Kerekes Kft. has donated over 16,000 kilograms of foodstuff for the children in need.
This was the largest donation of the past 17 years of the Mikulรกsgyรกr charity, the main organizer highlighted.
Mikulรกsgyรกr is one of the largest charity programs of Hungary and it was open for 21 days. Within those three weeks, they have received 107,000 kilograms of donations. 75% of the donations were long shelf-life foodstuff, but they received toys, warm clothes and cleaning and hygiene products as well, the organisers said.

People who wanted to help could take their donations to Dรณzs Gyรถrgy street in Budapest and the Pรณlus Center shopping centre as well as main post offices. The Hungarian Post helped gather 4 tonnes of donations during the charity.
They highlighted however, that this number could still grow as this year they have expanded their charity to Germany and they have yet to receive every donation from there.
The donations will be distributed by the Hungarian Red Cross and Oltalom Charity Society on a most-in-need basis.
