Official: Orbán government creates a new ministry

A new independent ministry of regional development and public administration, to be headed by Tibor Navracsics, is being set up in January, the head of the Prime Minister’s Office, Gergely Gulyás, announced on Tuesday.

Navracsics, as the “father” of the current public administration system, was best-placed to run the ministry, Gulyás said at a gathering of regional administrators.

He said Hungarian government offices had “excelled” in crisis situations, Gulyás said, noting their contributions during the coronavirus pandemic and their help for refugees in Hungary after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.

Navracsics said the achievements in customer service of the past 13 years must be maintained and a culture of cooperation created.

“We can create customer-friendly public administration as well as a development policy that successfully reduces disparities between various parts of the country on the basis of cooperation between district offices and county government offices,”

he said, adding that the state was meeting its constitutional duty to serve its citizens and the public good.
