EU funds for NGOs must be investigated, Orbán cabinet says

Hungarians have a right to know what EU funds are being spent under the radar, the government commissioner of the European Affairs ministry said in Brussels on Thursday, referring to the transparency of NGOs financed by EU institutions.
Meeting European Commission representatives today, Boglárka Bolya said such financing should meet transparency requirements, and she called on the EU to stick to transparency rules that member states are expected to adhere to.
She said that, as a commissioner, her task was “to investigate and raise awareness of the dubious details of EU funding for NGOs”, adding that the EU provided billions of forints to “organisations that attack the patriotic, sovereigntist government”.
“We will continue this fight, this investigation, at every level,” she said, noting that Fidesz MEPs were focused on the issue in the European Parliament. “We will protect Hungarian interests,” she added.
