Orbán informs Áder of Fidesz backing for second presidential term
Budapest, December 23 (MTI) – Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has personally informed President János Áder that the ruling Fidesz party will nominate him as Hungary’s head of state for another five-year term, the prime minister’s press chief said on Friday.
“Prime Minister and Fidesz leader Viktor Orbán has contacted President János Áder. He has informed the president that the Fidesz party’s leadership had decided to propose to the [party’s] parliamentary group that it should once again support the nomination and election of János Áder during the presidential election procedure in parliament,” Bertalan Havasi told MTI.
Áder: nomination for 2nd term ‘honour’
The president will announce after Christmas if he accepts the nomination, the office added in its statement.
Áder considers the nomination as recognition of his presidential efforts so far, but also respects the stance of opposition politicians who object to his serving a second term, the statement said. “The president wishes to stay away from any fighting between the political parties,” the statement added.
