Orbán’s advisor: International cooperation is needed to prevent another migration wave

On Tuesday evening, György Bakondi, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister, told Hungarian television channel M1 that it would be good if political measures and international agreements could prevent another migration wave similar to – or even greater than – the one last year.

Mr. Bakondi said that every effort must be made to maintain the EU-Turkey deal, the issue of migrants in Greece must be resolved, and rules on expulsion must be tightened.

According to Mr. Bakondi, Europe took rather too long to start defending itself. He said that the migration crisis is not a vast, one-off movement of population, but a prolonged process.

The position of the Government of Hungary consistently remains that the EU’s external borders must be protected, and that no one should cross them without being screened, he added.
