Budapest downtown’s Klauzál Square in the 7th district (Erzsébetváros) will become a green oasis.
Erzsébetváros (or Elizabeth town) is the 7th district of Budapest, lying between the Deák Ferenc Square region and the City Park/Heroes’ Square. Its central streets host some of the most well-known ruin bars. Therefore, many call that area Budapest’s party district, where Western European tourists flock.
Based on the plans presented by the Budapest Municipal Council, one of the biggest squares of this downtown region will be completely renewed and transformed into a green oasis in the heart of the capital.
Budapest Városháza (City Hall) said the capital’s authorities designed the new square following the ideas of the locals. Therefore, they will build:
- a new playground for children with 19 playground equipment, environment-friendly and safe;
- multifunctional sports ground;
- outdoor fitness park;
- renewed dog park.
As a result, the rate of green areas will grow to 52% from 36%, and 150 trees will clean the air instead of 134. Furthermore, they will place 63 new street furniture on the square with lots of parking installations for bicycles.
According to the plans, the renewal will be ready by Q3 2024, but children will be able to use the new playground from May, just like the new sports ground.
