The 21st Night of the Museums programme involving some 2,700 programmes in 450 institutions nationwide started on Saturday afternoon and will run until the small hours on Sunday.
Veszprem, in central Hungary, is a focus point of the event as a European Capital of Culture, culture and innovation ministry parliamentary state secretary Eszter Vitályos told a press conference. The event’s motto is “We are on Trend”, and some 380 programmes explore whether there is such a thing as a lasting trend, and if so, which trends can be said to be lasting and which trends tend to pop up for shorter or longer periods.
Besides exhibitions, the Night of the Museums offers performances of music, dance and theatre, in addition to 480 programmes for children and 80 gastronomic events, Vitályos noted. Last year, the Night of the Museums registered some 330,000 visits, and that number is expected to grow, she added.
