Breaking news – PM Orbán’s convoy involved in accident, several bodyguards hospitalised

Thankfully, PM Viktor Orbán remained uninjured, but numerous members of his security detail were hospitalised after one of the convoy’s vehicles lost control and crashed into a tree on a slick, rain-soaked road.
One vehicle in PM Orbán’s convoy crashed
According to portfolio.hu, the prime minister attended an event in Zalaegerszeg, in southwestern Hungary, accompanied by officers from the Counter Terrorism Centre. On the return journey to Budapest, one of the convoy’s cars carrying Orbán’s bodyguards skidded and collided with a tree. Heavy rain from a Mediterranean weather front has been sweeping across Hungary for days; experts note that the precipitation in just a few hours matched the country’s average for the entire month of November.
The vehicle involved was transporting four officers from the Counter Terrorism Centre (TEK), a unit established by PM Orbán following his 2010 election supermajority. All four agents were hospitalised, though further details on their condition have not yet been disclosed. TEK confirmed that no other convoy vehicles were affected.
Major investment to create high-value local jobs
The prime minister attended the inauguration of the Flex Zala Automotive Next Gen plant in Zalaegerszeg. He revealed that the HUF 35 billion investment will create 210 high-value jobs in research and development and advanced manufacturing sectors.
The Hungarian News Agency reported that Flex is a global company with 35 factories and over 30,000 employees across Europe. Hungary plays a key role in their network, hosting seven plants that employ more than 7,000 people across production, logistics and R&D. They manufacture parts for upwards of 100 car brands and over 600 vehicle platforms, including electric and hybrid models.
PM Orbán to replace Fidesz candidate in Zalaegerszeg
Hungarian media have reported that PM Orbán isn’t satisfied with all of his current MPs and candidates in certain constituencies. Since Hungary’s elections hinge on district votes, the prime minister plans to replace several candidates. For example, even Fidesz deputy chairman Szilárd Németh will be barred from standing in the Csepel district.
In the Zalaegerszeg-centred constituency, László Vigh will not run for a fifth term. Orbán noted that their 25-year working relationship goes beyond politics, and while Vigh will remain part of the team, he will no longer be an MP. The new Fidesz candidate there will be Gábor Szilasi, a local government representative and deputy leader of the municipal council’s Fidesz group. Szilasi holds a degree from Semmelweis University and is a 20-time Hungarian champion athlete.

Whoever drove that car should be made Orban’s personal driver.
Real counter terrorism dicks who can’t drive.
King Charles’ convoy travels at a steady 20 mph in urban areas, enabling motorcycle outriders to leapfrog one another to close pedestrian crossings and traffic junctions in advance of its arrival. It’s inconceivable that a car could lose control at these sorts of speeds no matter how slick the road surface.
The idiot “counter terrorism” commando who caused the accident should be forced to take a driver education course and then be put back through Hungarian commando school for juniors.
The underlying issue will be one of too much haste for the road conditions, typical of ‘presidential’ convoys in unsavoury countries. The ‘need’ to travel quickly due to nebulous ‘security threats’ is usually cited and, of course, ‘accidents can happen’ in these situations. I’ve seen them race through the centre of Budapest, sirens ablaze, at speeds that would get a civilian driver time behind bars.
@Larry The hatred you are imbued with is all in your head!Very disturbing and would best be followed up by qualified and trained people?
There is nothing better than mocking “counter terrorism commandos” who can’t drive a car. Maybe they should slow down. I have never read about any similar circumstance here in North America. The only ones involve other vehicles which might get in the way through their fault. Single vehicle accidents by definition are completely your fault when it comes to your insurance company policy.
Perhaps Hugo I should spell out the point more clearly. Body guards are too low level for Orban. Orban doesn’t have “body guards” he has “counter terrorism commandos”. The more pompous the title you take on the more ridiculous you look when you screw up. When you have to rescue the “counter terrorism commandos” you know you are in real trouble.
Apologies for so many posts but I know for a fact that the central driver training facility for police in Hungary is so severely underfunded that they don’t have enough money for petrol. They can’t train anyone. You may see more poorly trained police and commandos getting into accidents.
