Hungary’s police alerted to bomb threat affecting international train services
Hungarian police have started searching international trains after receiving a bomb threat by phone on Wednesday.
According to a statement on the police website, a male caller said he had placed bombs on international trains in Hungary.
Instructed by the police, national railway company MÁV stopped 18 trains in the country and asked passengers to leave carriages while police conducted bomb searches.
Mávinform said in a statement later that international trains were temporarily stopped at various points in the country, and, after carriages were searched, they proceeded towards their destinations.
Police will examine all trains entering the country until midnight, so delays to international and some domestic services can be expected, the statement said.
