Practically free, unlimited travel in Budapest on 150th birthday
On the occasion of Budapest’s 150th birthday, the Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) is offering a HUF 150 (EUR 0.40) day ticket in the BudapestGO app on 17 November. The ticket allows unlimited travel on BKK lines throughout the day. This is a perfect opportunity to travel around the capital and admire its autumn beauty.
Almost free, unlimited travel
The ticket can be purchased from 14 November 2023 on BudapestGO and other mobile ticketing apps. The szüliNAPIjegy (birthDAILYticket) can be used from 00:00 to 23:59 on 17 November. The journey can be completed after the specified time, according to BKK’s announcement.
The BudapestGO day ticket is valid within the administrative boundaries of Budapest on lines 1-99, 101-299, 900-999, M1, M2, M3, M4, H5, H6, H7, H8, H9, D14, on specified MÁV-START trains and on designated suburban services of VOLÁNBUSZ.
Birthday party: Budapest Nagyregény, The Budapester, Budapest Hősei, spas, party tram
On 17 November and the following days, Budapest is inviting its citizens to a huge birthday party in the City Hall courtyard. For the first time, the public will be able to see the Budapest Nagyregény (Budapest Big Novel), which is a collaborative work by 23 contemporary authors that tells the city through unique stories, Telex reports.
Visitors can also see illustrations from The Budapester on posters for the first time. To mark the 150th anniversary, 151 Hungarian illustrators have depicted a year and a significant event in the history of Budapest from 1873 to the present day.
In mid-November, Budapest Hősei (the Heroes of Budapest) will also be unveiled. In this project, employees of the capital’s companies will choose their own colleagues who they consider to be the greatest heroes, and they will tell about their work on posters.
Budapest Spas cPlc. also joins the celebrations. For the 17 November holiday, it offers tickets for HUF 150. Discounted tickets are available from 4 November: however, most likely, they have all been sold out. We wrote about this initiative before HERE.
To celebrate the birthday, the party tram, which enjoyed huge popularity last year, will be back on the 49 tram line.
To find out more about the programmes, download the ÉnBudapestem (MyBudapest) app, which has all the information you need about the festive weekend. Some programmes can only be registered for in the app.
