President: Hungary is fighting for democracy
On the final day of her visit to the United States, President Katalin Novák outlined Hungarian family policy and supporting measures, and emphasised the importance of being able to make decisions freely.
Addressing students at Franciscan University in Ohio on Tuesday, Novák told them “not to be afraid when you have to make a decision”.
On the subject of Hungary’s relationship with Russia, the president said Hungary’s position was “crystal clear”: it condemns Russian aggression in Ukraine and supports Ukraine’s territorial integrity. At the same time, Hungary pursues a “pragmatic relationship” with Russia to ensure its citizens can heat their homes, for which Russian oil and gas is essential. When it comes to sanctions, a similarly “rational and pragmatic approach” is needed, she added.
At the wreath-laying ceremony at the statue of Lajos Kossuth in Cleveland, Novák quoted Kossuth’s speech on democracy made in the Ohio state legislature in 1852: “All for the people, and all by the people. Nothing about the people without the people.”
Novák said Hungary was still fighting for these ideas and values so that people can decide for themselves how they want to live. Mayor of Cleveland Justin Bibb at the event called for closer ties between the city and Hungary.
Attending a meeting of the Arthur Görgey scout team at St. Imre Catholic Church in Cleveland, Novák referred to her recent speech in New York to the UN General Assembly in which she noted that organisations like the UN and the European Union “were all created as a peace mission”. “Let’s at least think, talk and act for peace here,” she said.

Question. How does her „fighting for democracy” statement reconcile with our addiction to States of Emergency? First during the 2015 refugee crisis, then during the Coronavirus pandemic (once, twice), which then conveniently dovetailed into the State of Emergency related to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine (extended).
Passing laws by decree without parliamentary oversight appears to be becoming the „new normal”. A good Politician never let a good crisis go to waste!
No rants as to how recurring States of Emergency do not meet our representations and commitments to the European Union (although in Mrs. Novák’s mind, her “democratic” fight may well be with the EU).
Would be surprised if she had ever read the Treaty on European Union and the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union…
Yes, us citizens are fighting for democracy.
Think all this president is doing is eating her way round America
EXAMPLES continue to Hungarians – the FALSENESS of positions and actions undertaken by this Orban led “Dictatorial” Government.
The President of Hungary – Katalin Novak -she spoke in Ohio, at a Catholic University, could imagine, small number of Americans having difficulty ACCEPTING the message Novak – was attempting to paint of Hungary’s “support’ of Democracy.
The extent of PROPAGANDA – this Fidesz Political Party, under the Leadership of the present Prime Minister of Hungary – Victor Orban – is APPALLING.
Hungary – this LECTURE – or Pontification “styled” speech – by the President of Hungary – Katalin Novak, a HIGH Profile supporter of Fidesz and its Leader – Victor Orban – JUST deepens the DAMAGE – UNIVERSALLY – to the Brand Name – Hungary.
Growing is the opinion, that the Hungarian Government is IMPLODING.
