President Novák urges promoting child birth
Europe’s future could be compromised “unless a pro-family answer is given to the demographic crisis”, President Katalin Novák said in an address delivered at the Swiss Economic Forum in Interlaken on Thursday.
While immigration could be preferred as a possible answer, the alternative is to provide support to families and promote child birth “as Hungary has so chosen through its family-centered, family-friendly policies”, the president said. She added that the Hungarian government spent 6 percent of the country’s GDP, the “highest ratio in the world” on family support schemes.
Novák said it was crucial to find ways to provide people raising children with economic benefits. Referring to the Hungarian government’s measures, she said those included personal income tax exemption for mothers with four or more children, free nursery care, and preferential students loans or mortgage benefits to young parents.
Speaking about the economy, Novák highlighted Hungary’s reducing its unemployment rate below 4 percent.
Answering a question, Novák said Hungary recognised Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, but added that her country “must make compromises due to its energy dependency”.

Look, no matter how much you pay women in this country to have sex to reproduce, you will always be falling behind without immigration. Hungarians are not a “pure” race or anything even close, so open up the country to immigrants! We will not be a good country without expanding the gene pool! You might consider supporting education for all the children you encourage people to have, along with proper facilites for healthcare and pay that can actually afford to shop at the market!
Maybe providing good possibilities for prosperous future for children with decent education by paying primary school teachers, vocational school teachers and university teachers a decent salary would increase people´s interest in having children. Many people do not consider having children in Hungary a good idea due to the decline of public education quality, unless they see themselves being able to provide private education for their children. Very few families can afford that, not even with the extra child support government gives per child due to the increasing prices of basic food and necessities.
On the surface I would support what the government is doing to support families but there is a much deeper crisis causing couples not to have children. They have voted not to have children because of the difficult economic circumstances in Hungary and Fidesz is faced with it and is responsible.
