In the attack against Israel, Hamas took several hundreds of people hostage including five who also hold a Hungarian citizenship, the foreign minister said, adding that the Hungarian government is in constant contact with the working group set up by the Israeli government for the freeing all hostages.
Péter Szijjártó said on Facebook that he spoke by phone with Soltan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, Qatar’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, on Sunday afternoon, and they reviewed the region’s security situation.
“I told my colleague that we know of five people also holding a Hungarian citizenship who had been taken hostage and asked for his help in freeing them,” said Szijjártó, adding that, praising bilateral ties, the Qatari minister had pledged his help.
Szijjártó said the names of the hostages had been given to the Qatari minister, who promised to provide relevant information as soon as they have it.
“We are grateful to Qatar and to the Qatari government for its help,” Szijjártó said.
