Recession over in Hungary? New GDP data out

Hungarian GDP grew by 0.9% in the third quarter compared to the previous quarter. The economy contracted by 0.4 percent year on year, based on unadjusted data, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said on Tuesday.
Seasonally and calendar-adjusted data show it decreased by an annual 0.3 percent.
In the Q1-Q3 period, GDP contracted by 1.2 percent year on year.

Márton Nagy, the economic development minister, said after the KSH release that restoring economic growth was “the next big task” after having curbed inflation.
The ministry statement said that the economy began growing again in the third quarter, adding that Hungarian growth had outperformed most other EU member states in the quarter.
He said the war in Ukraine and associated sanctions, as well as “profiteering by multinationals”, had battered the economy, businesses and families.
Although quarterly growth was positive, the economy contracted on annual basis, he noted, adding that the government still had work to do. Nagy referred to state-backed targeted loans under various schemes worth the equivalent of up to 1.5 percent of GDP, as well as the Factory Rescue scheme which subsidises energy-intensive businesses and frees companies from unfavourable energy contracts, among other measures.
Ah. It was “the war” and “profiteering by multinationals”. Now, the war and multinationals are not unique to Hungary, so it couldn’t be our Politicians’ management of the economy, spending priorities (overpay for Russian gas, anyone? Well – we tend to overspend on any procurement, anyway).

Wow, Norbert, that article is indeed informative. If enough Hungarians had access to this information(in Hungarian), and cared to discuss it with friends and family, the ineptitude of Fidesz might be better understood.
Minister of Finance – Mihaly Varga, what a dud he is, and the Prime Minister – Victor Orban, the “incinerator” of Hungary, never told us as a country, pointing to post February 2020, that we Hungary were in a Recession.
Varga & Orban – over the past week, been running around telling all and sundry in Hungary and Europe, that Hungary no longer are in a Recession.
Its all up, up and away – the fundamentals of the Economy are on a re-bound strengthening again – the future – our promised future by the Orban Government, to all Hungarians is going to HAPPEN.
Weird, to “mouth out” – Varga & Orban – we Hungary are out of a Recession, over the past week to “all and sundry” in Hungary and Globally, when NEVER NEVER NEVER – did we hear from them that actually, as a country we had been, and we still are FACTUALLY, in a RECESSION, is mindboggling.
Factually the Hungarian economy continues to SHRINK, and the on-going weight of this SHRINKAGE – continues to HOLD deepening in FACT the Financial & Economic position of Hungary in a RECESSION.
Desperation of a Government, that continues by PROPAGANDA layered in mis-truths, falseness of facts and truth, throwing this WRONGFULNESS overall image in relation to the present state of the “Crippled ” sickening Hungarian Economy – Disgusting.
