Retail turnover rebounds after Sunday shopping restrictions lifted
Budapest, August 3 (MTI) – Large retailers have recovered from the drop in revenue caused by Sunday shopping restrictions, the daily Magyar Nemzet said on Wednesday. Since the restrictions were lifted in April, turnover has rebounded.
Retail chain Spar told the paper that 9 percent of revenue is generated on Sundays.
The issue of extra pay and days off for Sunday work are still matters of dispute, affecting 80-100,000 of the around 500,000 employees in the sector. Several organisations and parties, including the co-ruling Christian Democrats, have criticised the labour code amendment which cuts extra pay for Sunday work from 100 percent to 50 percent.
Parliament is expected to discuss the issue with unions this autumn and any changes are likely to be implemented from January 2017, the paper said.
