Ryanair will launch two new flights from Budapest Airport in October.

The Irish low-cost airline, one of Hungarian Wizz Air’s main regional competitors, launched new flights from Hungary’s main airbase. Ryanair opened booking on a Budapest-Birmingham and Budapest-Alicante route from 29 October, Budflyer, a Hungarian travel news Facebook page, said.

According to their information, the Birmingham flight will commute twice a week, on Fridays and Sundays. The planes will probably serve Hungarian guest workers travelling home for a weekend. The other new flight to Alicante, a fancy Spanish beach city near the Mediterranean Sea, will take off on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. It will probably serve holidaymakers who travel from the Hungarian autumn and winter to the Spanish Riviera spring.

We reported HERE that the passenger traffic of Wizz Air and Ryanair is increasing in Hungary. Ryanair ended its strongest month of all time in August, transporting 18.9 million passengers. Meanwhile, at Wizz Air, the number of passengers increased even more sharply: 6,143,859, boarded the flights of the domestic low-cost service provider in August.

The two companies fight for the Central European markets. However, some analysts believe that Wizz Air will turn to the East and establish more connections to India, Southeast Asia and Central Asia. The goal might be to provide travel opportunities for the many Eastern guest workers (Kazakhs, Thais, Indonesians, Indians) coming to Hungary because of the lack of workforce.
