Ryanair strikes again: disabled passenger left in Budapest, his family threatened
A family’s holiday turned into a nightmare thanks to Ryanair. The family was not allowed to go to the front of the queue at the airport with their disabled son. The staff did not call for assistance, and after the long procedure, the gate to the plane was finally closed. The family was left behind in Budapest.
Another Ryanair shenanigan
Not too long ago, we have reported HERE that a disabled passenger was humiliated by the Irish low-budget airline and was forced to travel without his wheelchair battery. As it appears, Ryanair is already facing another complaint made by another disabled passenger. As rtl.hu wrote, the Rados family has always dreamed of going on a big holiday with the grandparents and other relatives. The family of nine aimed to fly to Cyprus with Ryanair last Friday. This is not the first time that the family has travelled with their disabled son, however, this time they have experienced appalling treatment.
Lack of help
The mother of the boy has given an interview to rtl.hu. She said:
The ground assistance must get there in time to help us, because we always ask for that kind of help so that we don’t have to go through the queues with the wheelchair and hold up other people.
This time, the family also asked for help in advance, as usual. They arrived at the airport on time and seeing the long queue, went ahead with their disabled son and asked for the necessary airport assistance. According to the mother, the lady at the desk has told them that there is no priority possibility, so they must go back to the end of queue and wait. The family did not want to argue with the staff who seemed visibly frustrated.
Missing the flight
After more than 40 minutes waiting in line, it was finally their turn. The clerk looked at the wheelchair-bound boy, perplexed. The staff member had to call for help. Other family members checked in and ran to the gate to tell the staff that the other part of the family is on its way. When the disabled boy managed to check in, it was too late already. According to the mother, they were told that they could not board. Ryanair also left behind over thirty passengers. The mother said:
The gentleman at the gate saw my child, saw us arrive with a wheelchair-bound disabled child, nothing, zero emotion, nothing. I also said, if nothing else, out of humanity, humanity! Then help! Help us to get through!
The staff member did not help. All he did was have their daughter taken off the plane and threatened to write a note for the mother for shouting and acting aggressively. The mother admitted that she was stressed, but she did not harm anyone. Although, this was the reasoning of the air company for not providing the family with free new tickets. Instead, they had to pay HUF 245 thousand (EUR 645) for the new tickets. According to the mother, the total damage is at least HUF 600 thousand (EUR 1,580).
Budapest Airport sent an apology, while Ryanair asked for more time to investigate the matter.
